About Jon and YardageRangefinder.com

The idea for this site was born in 2008 when I was watching my golfing hero Mike Weir in the Canadian Skins Game.

As an avid golfer I had heard of rangefinders and golf GPS units, but hadn’t really seen many in use. But since this Skins Game was not an official PGA Tour event, I was shocked to the the caddies and the players themselves using rangefinders to get their yardages.

The reason this was allowed was because the skins game is squeezed in on a Monday and Tuesday between 2 official tour events, so the players and caddies don’t have time to properly walk the course and update their yardage books.

Of course, seeing how much the pros were relying on these devices, I had to have one. I went to my local Golf Shop where they had a nice selection of rangefinders. But after about 30 minutes trying to decide I realized that there was too many choices:

  • Rangefinder or GPS?
  • Regular or Slope model?
  • Which models work the best?
  • Which one is the best value?

I needed to do some research, so I scoured the web to figure out the best unit for my needs.

Figuring that I wasn’t the only one that would be looking for the answers to those questions, I created this website to put the results of my research online.

Since 2008 I have updated it to include newer models and innovative products and revised the reviews on models that have fallen out of favor.
