Our Research on SkyCaddie SG5 Golf GPS Suggests:

There is no clear consensus for this device based on user reviews. The device works adequately for those that are able to get it setup smoothly. However for a significant percentage, who have troubles installing the software (GPS units must be synced to a home computer), the SkyCaddie support was not helpful.

Of the 10 reviews on Amazon, only 3 reviewers gave the SG5 5/5 stars. 4 gave it 4/5 and 3 gave it 1/5 stars.

Limitations:

1. Cannot record score. Many golf GPS devices do provide this ability.
2. Requires an annual subscription to course data.

Verdict:

The SkyCaddie SG5 Golf GPS seems to be a bit of a gamble. While is small and light with a nice screen, it is not exceptional and people have had issues with installation.

The only compelling reason we can see to purchase this unit would be if you believe that having the course mapped and the targets identified by a human provides significantly more accuracy than satellite based systems.
