Callaway Rangefinder LR800 by Nikon

callaway lr 800 thru lens crosshairs

The Callaway LR800 is a premium rangefinder designed to provide provides quick and accurate distance measurement. Callaway has licensed the optical technology for this laser rangefinder from Nikon, to ensure an accurate yardage device.

The LR800 is the baby brother of Callaway’s LR1200 model. It has almost all the same features, except only 6x rather than 7x magnification, slightly slower response time and its range tops out at about 800 yards rather than 1100 (who hits a golf ball that far?).

Features include:

One Touch - no fussing with the controls, click the button.

LCD backlight allows user to light up display in low-light conditions

First Target Priority Mode – displays the range to the nearest target among multiple results obtained with a single measurement. This is designed to increase accuracy when aiming at a pin with a background of trees, something that can be a problem for unsophisticated rangefinders.

High-eyepoint for easy eyeglass-wearer viewing

Scan-Mode capable of distancing different targets in succession – for up to 20 seconds

Callaway and Nikon’s LR800 is designed to be a very functional rangefinder for those who don’t want to pay the extra $100 for their “tournament caddy” version, their LR1200 model.

Callaway LR800 Laser Rangefinder Reviews, Feedback & Overview

Rating:

6 / 10

Actual Customer Feedback:

“The Callaway Nikon 800 had horrible results on the golf course. It failed at 140yds and greater.

If the flag is not moving or if there is no golfers on the green to aim at,  you are left with nothing to target.

I used my buddies Bushnells and they didn’t have this problem at the same yardages.”

“The Callaway golf LR800 is a good product.

Within a couple seconds I knew the distance to flag and all hazards. You can get a distance to anything that isn’t flat.

The only negative about it is its hard to keep steady. Because it magnifies 6x, it can get a little shaky when you’re trying to get a lock on the flag.”

Our Research on Callaway Nikon LR800 Suggests:

To be fair the Callaway LR800 is a new product and there are not a lot of actual user reviews available.

From the golfers we surveyed who have tried it and compared it shares a similar problem to its more expensive siblings; it is difficult to lock onto the flagstick and get an accurate reading.

Verdict:

Unless, you have brand loyalty and want everything in your bag to say “Callaway” on it, then for about the same price you’ll find the Bushnell Pinseeker 1500 is a better choice.
