Callaway Rangefinder LR1200 Review

Consumer Report
Callaway Rangefinder LR1200 by Nikon Callaway LR1200 is a high end rangefinder designed by two heavyweight companies. Callaway has licensed the optical technology for this laser rangefinder from Nikon, to ensure an accurate yardage device.

The LR1200 claims to be designed for Tournament Caddies, and it the flagship of the Callaway rangefinder models.

It has many carefully thought out features that you’d expect from a high end device:

One Touch - no fussing with the controls, click the button.

First Target Priority Mode – displays the range to the nearest target among multiple results obtained with a single measurement. This is designed to increase accuracy when aiming at a pin with a background of trees, something that can be a problem for unsophisticated rangefinders.

High-eyepoint for easy eyeglass-wearer viewing

LCD backlight allows user to light up display in low-light conditions

Scan-Mode capable of distancing different targets in succession – for up to 20 seconds

Callaway and Nikon’s LR1200 is designed to be the best rangefinder on the market, worthy of it’s billing as the “Official rangefinder of the PGA of America.

Callaway LR1200 Laser Rangefinder Reviews, Overview and User Feedback

Rating:

7 / 10

Actual Customer Feedback:

“I like the Callaway Nikon LR1200 just fine but, for me anyway, it does not perform on the course as well as the Pinseeker 1500TE. I like the horizontal orientation (like binoculars) and the Bushnell’s “Pinseeker” mode works better for me than the Nikon’s “First Target Priority” Mode.”
Actual Callaway LR1200 user review on golfwrx.com forum

“The 1500 is MUCH easier to shoot than the Callaway Nikon. Even in FTP mode I still had trouble picking up pins when there were trees in the background.

With the Callaway I was shooting each target 2-5 times depending on the distance and background, which was a hassle.

-I do like the neoprene case that comes with the Callawy LR1200 and I like the looks of the LR better as well, but those were not enough to make up for its deficencies.

-The Callaways DOES process the distances faster than the Bushnell, hands down.. but you will be shooting the target more than 2 times to get the distance the Bushnell will get on the first try.”

Our Research on Callaway Nikon LR1200 Suggests:

To be fair the Callaway LR1200 is a new product and there are not a lot of actual user reviews available.

Overall it does seem to be a high quality laser rangefinder, but since it is the most expensive one on the market, it has high expectations to live up to.

From the golfers we surveyed who have tried it and compared it to the Bushnell PinSeeker 1500, the Busnell does to a better job of grabbing the pin yardage when presented with a pin with trees behind it.

This is the most difficult thing for a laser rangefinder to accomplish, and it is the most important feature for golfers. Afterall, it’s nice to measure the distance of your drive, but it’s knowing an accurate yardage to the pin that will make the most diffference in on your scrorecard.

Verdict:

Unless, you are addicted to the Callaway brand or really value a neoprene case then you’ll probably be better off with the Bushnell 1500.

It makes sense that a company like Busnell, which specializes in optical devices is probably going to do a better job on a rangefinder, than Callaway who have manufactured primarily golf clubs.
